And so it begins

As most of you know Pakistan has been ravaged by floods all through late summer of 2010. Various aid agencies and individuals have been active in assisting with the relief and rehab of the affected. The Naqvi family under the leadership of Syed Anis-ul-Hasnain Naqvi have taken it upon themselves to help the displaced families in the district of Bhakkar, near the village of Behal and the surrounding areas. Over all we are targeting 10 villages/localities, encompassing about 414 families.

Most of these 414 families have not only lost their houses but also most of their live stock (for farmers they are a vital life line) and personal belongings. Basically they escaped the floods with only the clothes on their backs. We feel it is mandatory for us as Muslims and Pakistanis to assist these folks to get back on their feet and get their lives started again. We would like to give them a head start in their rehab by assisting them with basic housing needs. We have determined that a 17 foot by 13 foot brick and cement room can be constructed for about Pak Rs. 62,000, this is only the cost of materials and skilled labor, unskilled labor will be provided by the local community pro bono. This is the only cost involved with this construction effort (materials and skilled labor) all other parties are working as volunteers.

The project is headed by Syed Anis-ul-Hasnain Naqvi (retd. member PTCL), duly assisted by retd. Brig. Ghulam Ali (principal Uswa college Islamabad). Included below is a copy of the Urdu letter that has been distributed to potential donors, the letter contains further details.

I am writing this blog to keep track of the ongoing construction so that various donors who have made financial and material contributions towards this project stay aware that their generous contributions are indeed being put to good use.
